More snow!

So it snowed again, only this time it did it properly. Although, from what KJ is saying in the comments below the last post, it's a *lot* colder where she is!

The snow's been coming down for a few hours now and doesn't look like stopping anytime soon. As soon as we get any snow in the south of England, the whole place goes to pot. The neighbours' kids are all in the gardens, because their schools have shut (even though most are walking distance away!) and when I just tried to call the phone company about something, a recorded message explained they've got staff shortages because of the extreme weather conditions.

Oh well, I love snow and I very much hope it keeps going for days! More pictures to follow if it does...

Hope the publicity cheers Hitchin Town FC up - have noticed their results have not been so good of late. Wonder if a certain school in Cumbria still does winter sports on days like this... Sarah, Derby

That is one smart looking snowman you have there! We've had snow but it's been so darn cold that it won't pack or hold together. We've had school cancelled as well - though for the cold, not the snow! (It's a balmy -14F/-25C this morning) I'd like to trade weather with Dawn!

OK - Here's another strange, but truely curious question from KJ . . . When it snows in England, do you have snowplows that go through on a regular basis? Do you put salt or chemicals down when the streets are slick?

Enjoy your snow while it lasts!

You may get two from me cos don't think first one went..... just like old times with Dawn, KJ et al! We have snowploughs (different spelling as usual) which travel on Motorways and A roads and bus routes (always keep bus routes open). In general this means B roads and unclassified get left out.

Also have gritters which do much same routes flinging out a mix including salt behind them. Sometimes this is ahead of ice, sometimes afterwards. Its effective, but windscreens (windshields?) get white from it, cars get covered in salt, shoes turn white etc etc, but, it does work.
Take care all, whether the weather be hot or cold. Sarah, Derby
